Chelsea vs Tottenham Match Preview

It has been 26 years since Spurs managed to defeat Chelsea in all competitions yet the rivalry still burns bright. Spurs will be looking to end their 29 game run of defeats and draws vs Chelsea this weekend which will be no easy task against a blues side that is sitting happily on top of the EPL log.

Chelsea remain in fine form heading into the London derby as they look to continue their 6 game winning streak. Man of the moment Diego Costa is showing no signs of slowing down and will be looking to add to his incredible tally of 10 league goals and 3 assists from just 12 appearances. Costa’s ability to harass a defensive line into making mistakes is almost unparalleled as he prays on the weak and makes the most of every opportunity. Alberto Conte faces no injury problems and will be heading into the game with a fully fit team. The Italian is likely to stick with his recent 3-4-3 formation which will keep the defence tight and allow for Hazard and Costa to pose an attacking threat. He is also unlikely to make any changes to the blues line-up.

Things have been rather shaky for Spurs of late as they head into the derby with little hope after just one win from their last 9 fixtures. Pocchetino’s men are coming off an unconvincing win where they were lucky to grab 2 last minute Harry Kane goals to beat an off-form West ham side 3-2. They have, however, managed an average of 17 shots per game and simply need to do better to convert their chances. Like last season, Kane has battled to find form early on but it is only a matter of time till the number 10 is back to his best. We can’t see Spurs continuing on this dreadful run and they are going to need to battle hard if they want to beat Chelsea to begin their ascent up the EPL table. Spurs will be without key Defender Toby Alderweireld who is still nursing a knee injury, Danny Rose is serving a suspension and Jan Vertonghen was dropped to the bench for Spurs defeat to Monaco in the Champions league where they were embarrassingly knocked out.

Chelsea will most certainly be heading into the London derby as favourites but it would be unheard of to write-off Spurs in a game with pride and bragging rights at stake.
