2026 World Cup qualifiers
CAF Group I
Matchday 5
Ghana v Chad
Accra Sports Stadium
Accra, Ghana
Friday, 21 March 2025
Kick-off is at 19:00
Following their disappointment from missing out on the Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana will now turn their attention to the
World Cup qualifiers when they go up against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday evening.
After missing out on the AFCON, head coach Otto Addo faced a ton of criticism from fans and the media alike. The Black Stars won’t feature in the continental showpiece for the first time in over two decades.
Addo has emphasised the need for positive results in their campaign, calling for support in order to secure Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance.
"We came to seek for your support and guidance," the 49-year-old said.
"We have difficult matches ahead of us, and the country needs urgent victories to go to the World Cup, and for that, I believe we need to support ourselves, especially the GA chiefs and the entire people so that everybody can be happy.”

Andre Ayew has once again been left out of the Black Stars squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar despite his impressive form for Le Havre in the French Ligue 1.
Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu advocated for respecting the coach's decisions, noting Ayew's continued strong performance.
"We all know player selection for the Black Stars is based on performance. Dede is delivering, but we must respect the coach’s choice," Badu stated in an interview.
He also shared that he'd spoken with Ayew, who remains unperturbed. "I spoke to Dede Ayew, and he isn’t worried," Badu confirmed.
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey who serves as deputy captain has re-joined the squad after missing four of Ghana’s qualifiers in 2024 due to injury.
With over 50 appearances for Ghana since his 2016 debut, Partey adds valuable experience to the squad as they pursue vital points in Group I.
Southampton's Kamal Deen Sulemana returns from injury, while CD Lugo's Jerry Afriyie retains his spot following a strong showing against Niger last November.
