2024-25 NBA Regular Season
Houston Rockets v Oklahoma City Thunder
Toyota Centre
Houston, Texas
Saturday 5 April
Tip-off at 00:00
The Houston Rockets will lock horns with the Oklahoma City Thunder in an
NBA Regular Season encounter on Saturday morning, 5 April.
This Western Conference clash is a match-up between first and second, where bragging rights are set to be earned. For the Rockets, they will be aiming to put a stop to Thunder’s impressive 10-match winning streak.
The Houston Rockets have made a remarkable surge with the playoffs nearing, however, they recently faced a loss against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Point guard Amen Thompson has been a key player, receiving praise from the highly critical Stephen A. Smith from ESPN.
“Amen Thompson, he is going to be a future star in this league. Watch this brother play, you will love him. This is a rough rider,” Smith said.
Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is at the peak of his powers on and off the court, having also recently featured in Drake's music video for the song “Nokia”.
Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Hailburton is also a fan of Gilgeous-Alexander, sharing that he believes that the star should win the MVP this season.
"I grew up in an era where the best player on the best team wins MVP every time," Haliburton said.
"I think our era is kind of getting away from that a little bit, which is fine because guys like [Nikola] Jokic are deserving when they win."
"But even if you took away the fact that they have the best record, he [Gilgeous-Alexander] would still be the MVP. And then, when you add in the fact that they have the best record, it kind of makes it an easy decision."
Oklahoma City’s season has been one for the record books, even though they’ve faced injuries throughout. Their final results have been a massive success and it appears their offseason acquisitions are what have made the difference.
It might’ve taken a while for Alex Caruso to adjust, but now he has turned into one of the team’s most valuable players in the offense.
“He’s super vocal,” Kenrich Williiams, the team’s locker room leader, said of Caruso.
“He’s more vocal than I am. Every timeout, he’s always speaking to the team, every practice we get, even in the film room — he’s always speaking up. He has years of experience, he has won a championship, so it’s a different level of leadership I would say. It’s been super helpful for our team.”
