MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia will be determined to win the Grand Prix of the Americas for the first time in his career.
Most recent race
The Ducati Lenovo Team rider narrowly missed out on a podium spot at the Argentine MotoGP on 16 March, the most recent event on the 2025 MotoGP calendar.
Bagnaia finished fourth in the race and third in the sprint event which saw him collect a total of 20 points at the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo.
MotoGP title ambitions
The 28-year-old is placed third in the 2025 MotoGP Riders' standings having collected 43 points from two races.
Bagnaia is now 31 points behind the leader Marc Marquez of Ducati and 15 points behind second-placed Alex Marquez of Ducati.
Why Bagnaia could win the 2025 Grand Prix of the Americas MotoGP
The Turin-born rider is one of the top riders in the MotoGP, having finished third in the 2021 Grand Prix of the Americas and also won this event as a Moto2 rider in 2018.
Bagnaia, who won the MotoGP world championship in 2022 and 2023, has what it takes to win this weekend's event, having won 11 races last season.
What did he say?
“I tried to keep a consistent pace, but my strategy didn’t work. When Franco (Morbidelli) passed me, I tried to stay with him, but I struggled a little bit," Bagnaia said after the 2025 Argentine MotoGP.
"I managed to get up to speed in the final laps, but I had no chance to try and overtake me. It’s true that we narrowed the gap down, but not enough. Our pace was similar to the frontrunners, but not close enough to finish on the podium.
"I still miss the feeling I had last year, despite the two bikes being very similar, but we’re working on it and we’ll try to make another step forward at Austin. We need to stay focused because it’s a long season, and it’s important to finish every race, and with the best possible result.”
