Man-City-v-Liverpool

After failing to wrap up the Premier League title this past weekend, the pressure is on Pep Guardiola to deliver a masterclass performance that will see the Sky Blues through to the last four of the competition for consecutive seasons. After succumbing to a 3-0 defeat at Anfield in the first leg last week, they crumbled at home against their neighbours Manchester United who spoiled City’s title party by coming back from two goals down in the second half to win 3-2 in arguably the match of the season. The Reds meanwhile, played out to goalless stalemate against cross-town rivals Everton in Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

Man-City-v-Liverpool

In eight matches against City in all competitions, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have picked up five wins since the German first took charge of the Reds in 2015. The 3-0 drubbing they handed to City on Wednesday last week put Liverpool in the driving seat to reach the semi-finals but they will have to be weary, having lost 5-0 in the league on their last visit to the Etihad in September. Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero, both of whom were on target in that victory were excluded from Saturday’s starting lineup but are expected to lead the line once again on Wednesday.

As Roma prepare to welcome Barcelona to the Italian capital on Tuesday for just the third time in their history, needing to overcome a three-goal deficit from the first leg. L Giallorossi shot themselves in the foot with a pair of own-goals handing the Blaugrana the early advantage before further strikes from centre-half Gerard Pique and centre-forward Luis Suarez put the icing on the cake. Edin Dzeko pulled back a late, consolatory away goal to spare some blushes but will have it all do after failing to recover at the weekend, going down 2-0 to Fiorentina in Serie A while Barcelona comfortably brushed aside Leganes 3-1.
