Team USA vs Team Europe

Whistling Straits
Haven, Wisconsin, USA
24-26 September 2021

Rory McIlroy will be among Team Europe's key players when he takes part in the 2021 Ryder Cup having enjoyed some success in the competition in the past.

The Northern Irishman, who is a four-time major champion, heads to Whistling Straits with four Ryder Cup wins already under his belt and is among the best golfers in the world.

McIlroy will be looking to add a fifth after being part of the European team who beat the United States at Le Golf National in Paris, France three years ago.

Since his debut in 2010, McIlroy has evolved into one of his continent’s most experienced and accomplished Ryder Cup players.

Overall, the two-time PGA Championship winner has played in 24 matches, winning 11, halving four and losing nine, with an overall points total of 13.

McIlroy began 2021 brightly by claiming a solo third in Abu Dhabi and then went on to win the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA TOUR in May.

Since that triumph the accomplished golfer collected three further top seven finishes, with his best being a solo fourth finish at the BMW Championship.

McIlroy has explained how involved Team European captain Padraig Harrington has been in the last few months as they prepare for this year's tournament.

“I would say a little more of a distanced captain than the last few [captains]," McIlroy said.

"I feel like Thomas [Bjorn] basically took a year and a half out from his career to really focus on the captaincy.

“Padraig is still pretty competitive, he's got a PGA Tour card, he plays over here. He more than the last few captains has had to try to balance that.”

Team Europe members: McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Shane Lowry, Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm, Lee Westwood and Bernd Wiesberger.
