Round 20

Mexico City, USA

Sunday, 27 October 2024

Lando Norris will be eager to get his bid to clinch the 2024 Formula One world title back on track by returning to winning ways at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Most recent race

The McLaren driver missed out on a podium spot at the United States Grand Prix on 20 October, the most recent race in the 2024 Formula One World Championship season.

Norris started on the first grid, but he slipped up and ended up finishing fourth, and he also finished third in the sprint classification which saw him accumulate 18 points from the event.

Formula One title ambitions

The 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship winner remains second on the World Drivers' Championship standings having collected 297 points.

Norris is now 57 points behind leader Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing as the two drivers go head-to-head for this season's Formula One world championship.

Why Norris could win the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix

The Bristol-born racing driver is one of the few drivers who have competed in every race this season without being forced to retire and he has won three races.

Norris, who was crowned champion in Miami, Singapore and the Netherlands, is under pressure to win the Mexican Grand Prix to close the gap on Verstappen.

What did he say?

“A frustrating afternoon," Norris said after finishing fourth at the 2024 United States Grand Prix.

"Of course, starting first and finishing fourth is not what we hoped, but it was a challenging field with the Ferraris looking strong all weekend.

"I was confident in a podium finish today but unfortunately, we lost it through a decision out of our hands. So, a tough weekend and we have work to do," he added.

"We’ll debrief as a team and go again next weekend in Mexico to secure more strong points in our championship push.”
