Today we're taking a look at some of these often unprecedented and incredible signings:
Javier Hernandez

While initally transfering on a temporary basis, Hernandez moved to Real Madrid in 2014 with the option to buy in the following year. While he did score 7 La Liga goals, he only completed a full 90 minutes 5 times in the season. Unsurprisingly, Real chose not to keep him on, with Hernandez then moving to Bayern Leverkusen and eventually West Ham United.
Gareth Bale

Initially regarded as an average defender at Spurs, Bale soon became one of the League's most dangerous wingers, earning him a record-breaking move to Madrid in 2013. Bale has gone on to score 71 goals in 127 La Liga appearances, and now with Ronaldo leaving for Juventus, has the chance to really show his stuff.
Michael Essien

Essien was taken by close ally and former boss Jose Mourinho to play his football at Real Madrid in 2012. The pair were very close and Essien played 35 times in the season under the ex-Madrid manager - unfortunately, Real Madrid missed out silverware that year.
Luka Modric

Widely regarded as one of the most under-appreciated and underrated footballers of the modern era, Modric moved from Spurs to Real for £30million in August 2012. He has subsequently made 259 appearances for the club before a rumoured move to Inter Milan following the 2018 World Cup, with Madrid claiming that Inter had made an illegal approach to the player.
Emmanuel Adebayor

Never one to accept a quiet career, Adebayor joined Real Madrid in 2011 after being told that he was no longer part of Mancester City's future plans. He scored a total of 8 goals in 22 matches, including goals against his former club Spurs in the Champions League. Currently he plays his football at Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir.
Cristiano Ronaldo

Not much needs to be said about this all-time great. He made his move to Real Madrid in a record-breaking deal in 2009 and subsequently went on to score 450 goals in 438 appearances for the club. His recent move to Juventus has opened up some room for others in the Real Madrid to step up to the plate, but Ronaldo continues to prove his worth at his new home.
Arjen Robben

Arjen Robben is an interesting case, as the club looked to sell him to allow for the transfers of Kaka and Ronaldo. This may have been a poor move as he is now entering his 10th season with Bayern Munich and has scored 138 goals in 291 appearances for the German club.
Ruud van Nistelrooy

Making way for Ronaldo's rise in United, van Nistelrooy preceded him at Real Madrid for €14million in 2006 after scoring 95 goals in 150 Premier League appearances. He top scored in his first season in La Liga only for injuries to hamper the rest of his time at the club. He did end up leaving with a great record of 64 goals in 96 appearances.
David Beckham

Real Madrid seemingly hijacked Beckham's move to Barcelona for €37million. It wasn't the greatest time for him to join the club though, as Real Madrid went trophyless for 3 years before finally winning the league ahead of his impending departure to LA Galaxy.
Whether or not Real Madrid creates superstars or attracts them, the consensus is clear that some of the greatest players of all time have spent time at the club.
