The first ever Super Bowl was hosted at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1967 and won by the Green Bay Packers.
Since then, there has been 20 different Super Bowl winners -- this includes teams that have relocated to another city.
The Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills have appeared in the most Super Bowls (four apiece) without actually winning the
National Football League (NFL) title, while New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick boasts the most Super Bowl rings with eight, having also won one of his rings during his time with the New York Giants.
Betway takes a closer look at the six most successful teams in NFL history:
New York Giants (4x Super Bowl champions)
The Giants won their fourth and most recent Super Bowl with victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.
Ahmad Bradshaw scored a fourth quarter touchdown to secure victory for the Giants who added to wins achieved in the 1986, 1990 and 2007 seasons. Quarterback Eli Manning was key to their two most recent victories, winning the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in both the 2007 and 2011 seasons.
He was particularly impressive in Super Bowl XLII when the Giants upset a Patriots team who had just become the first team to complete a perfect regular season since the 1972 Miami Dolphins. It is still regarded as one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history.
Green Bay Packers (4x Super Bowl champions)
The inaugural Super Bowl winners won the first two Super Bowls with victory over the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders respectively.
Following their wins in the 1966 and 1967 season, Packers fans had to wait until 1996 for their third Super Bowl.
Their most recent Super Bowl victory came at Super Bowl XLV when Aaron Rodgers spearheaded them to a 31-25 win over the Pittsburg Steelers at Cowboys Stadium.

San Francisco 49ers (5x Super Bowl champions)
Last season's runners-up haven't won a Super Bowl since the 1994 season.
The 49ers dominated the 1980's with legend Joe Montana leading the franchise to success in the 1981,1984,1988 and 1989 season when they famously thumped the Denver Broncos 55-10 at the Louisiana Superdome. The record-setting win was the most ever points scored by one team, and their 45-point margin of victory was the largest ever in Super Bowl history.
Their most recent success came at Super Bowl XXIX with quarterback Steve Young leading the franchise to victory in Miami.
Dallas Cowboys (5x Super Bowl champions)
America's team won three of their five Super Bowls in the 1990's.
Following victories in the 1971 and 1977 season, the Cowboys finally ended their drought with victory over the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII.
Troy Aikman started in all three of the Cowboys Super Bowl wins in the 1992, 1993 and 1995 season respectively, but for all their success under head coach Jimmy Johnson and then Barry Switzer, the Texas team haven't reached a Super Bowl in 24 years and counting.
Pittsburgh Steelers (6x Super Bowl champions)
The team of the 1970's, the Steelers won four of their six Super Bowl championships between the 1974 and 1979 NFL seasons.
Quarterback Terry Bradshaw was key to that success and was part of all four championship winning teams, while he was named Super Bowl MVP in both 1979 and 1980.
Pittsburgh added two more Super Bowl titles to their list of accolades with victories at Super Bowl XL and XLIII.
New England Patriots (6x Super Bowl champions)
The Patriots are the team of the 2000's and since the 2001 season they have appeared in nine Super Bowls, winning six.
Following runner-up finishes in 1985 and 1996, Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady transformed the franchise into the winningest franchise in NFL history and as of the 2019 season, they are tied with the Steelers on six Super Bowls.
The Patriots have also appeared in a record 11 Super Bowls with their most recent victory coming last year when they defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Atlanta.
In 2017, Brady and the Patriots overcame a 28-3 deficit against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI to tie the contest at 28-28 and take the game into overtime (the first and only time this has happened) before eventually emerging triumphant 34-28 in Houston.
