CAF Group I
Mali v Ghana

Kick-off is at 21h00

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has vowed to deliver a playing style that will excite the fans when he takes charge of his first competitive match against Mali in a 2026 World Cup qualifier at the Stade du 26 Mars on Thursday, June 6.

Addo returned to the helm for a second stint in March, having previously guided the Black Stars to the 2022 World Cup before resuming his duties at Borussia Dortmund upon the completion of his short-term deal with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The 48-year-old tactician succeeded Chris Hughton, who was sacked during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations following the team's failure to progress beyond the group stages.

Addo will be looking to get their Group I campaign back on track after the West Africans had picked three points from their opening two qualifiers in November under Hughton to sit in fourth place.

Ghana kicked off proceedings with an uninspiring 1-0 victory over Madagascar which saw Inaki Williams score a last-gasp winner and they followed it up with a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Comoros.

Speaking in his first press conference since being reappointed by the GFA, Addo expressed a desire to put smiles back on the faces of the national team's supporters by playing an attractive brand of football.

"I am excited and grateful to be back home, although it was not an easy decision. The GFA and Dortmund had several discussions, and I am now back where I belong," the former Black Stars attacking midfielder said.

"I'm excited and looking forward to the next match. I can't promise victories, but I can promise you that we will play good football. I want to bring back the joy of watching us play. My players will not be afraid of the ball."

The two nations last met in a friendly on 9 October 2020 as the Eagles ran out convincing 3-0 victors in Side, Turkey, with the goals coming from Hamari Traore (3'), El Bilal Toure (49') and Amadou Haidara (75').
