Euro 2024

Group D

France v Poland

Signal Iduna Park

Dortmund, Germany

Tuesday, 25 June 2024

Kick-off is at 16h00

France will be fighting for top spot in Group D when they face Poland at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on Tuesday, June 25.

Les Bleus are tied with Netherlands on four points but occupy second place on goals scored with one match remaining in the group stages.

Didier Deschamps' side kicked off their title challenge with a narrow 1-0 win over Austria in Dusseldorf on June 17 before being held to a goalless draw by the Orange in Leipzig four days later.

Deschamps decided not to risk Kylian Mbappe at the Red Bull Arena after his star striker suffered a broken nose against the Burschen, with Marcus Thuram given the responsibility of leading the line for their second game in Germany.

However, Mbappe is expected to return to the starting line-up and will wear a protective mask after scoring twice in a practice match against Paderborn's Under-21s on June 22 while donning the facial gear.

"Everything is going in the right direction after this huge he had, and the consequences of that, obviously," Deschamps said.

"Yesterday, as you have probably seen, he was able to come out and exercise a bit. It will be the case this evening as well.

"Everything is evolving in the right direction so that it is possible he's available for tomorrow."

The Eagles have nothing to play for but pride as they've already been eliminated from the tournament after losing their opening two group encounters.

Michal Probierz's side squandered the lead in Hamburg to go down 2-1 to Netherlands on June 16 before being beaten 3-1 by Austria in Berlin four days later.

Poland have conceded the joint-second most goals (five) and are seeking their first win in six games at the European Championship after going winless at the 2020 edition.

Probierz left talisman Robert Lewandowski on the bench against the Burschen after he picked up a knock in the opening match and the 51-year-old tactician felt they missed an opportunity when the Barcelona striker was brought on in the second half.

"We knew that this would be a highly intensive match, and we decided with the medical team, and Lewandowski himself, that he would not be starting from the first minutes," Probierz said.

"We hoped that we could break through the Austrian defence in the second half, it's a pity that we didn't score. We missed that moment."
