Aston Martin-Mercedes driver Sebastian Vettel will look to keep up his solid recent form in the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship when Round 8, the Stryian Grand Prix, is held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria on the afternoon of Sunday 27 June.

The four-time World Champion has strung together three points finishes in a row, with his ninth-place at this past weekend’s French Grand Prix following a P5 at Monaco and P2 at Azerbaijan.

“The conditions [in the French GP] were tricky. We know that tyres today were difficult for everybody, but we can be happy with points,” said Vettel. “[It was] a bit of an anti-climax because the group ahead of me, I was catching [them] but just run out of laps. Overall, it’s good to have both cars in the points. We did our homework and I think we got the maximum out of today.”

One of Aston Martin’s main midfield rivals is the Alpine-Renault team, which has seen veteran Fernando Alonso come home in sixth and eighth place in the past two events. The French outfit has begun to rediscover their form and will hope to close down an 11-point gap between themselves and the Astons.

“The start was very good, recovered three or four places in the first corners but then the graining was bigger than what we thought, what we anticipated,” said Alonso. “We stopped a little bit too early and had slower pace, but with the hard tyres we came alive again. We were able to hold a good pace and P8 is good.

“We started ninth, we finished eighth so we executed our race but it was interesting – the high degradation was a surprise for everyone.”
