Manchester City will be hoping to win their seventh
Community Shield trophy by overcoming Manchester United on 10 August.
Preparations
City played all of their pre-season matches in the USA where they succumbed to a 4-3 defeat to Scottish champions Celtic in their first game on 24 July.
A 3-2 defeat to Italian giants AC Milan followed on 28 July before a drawing 2-2 draw with Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona and they lost 4-1 on penalties on 31 July.
However, the Citizens ended their tour of the USA with a 4-2 victory over their English rivals Chelsea on 3 August.
Latest news
City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Ederson was left out of the squad against Chelsea due to some "niggles' and Rico Lewis had to be substituted because of a knee problem.
The good news for the Citizens is that Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are set to return to the Citizens' training sessions on Monday, 5 August.
However, Rodri, Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez, Kyle Walker and John Stones will still be unavailable due to the EURO 2024 final and COPA America final.
Why Man City could win the Community Shield
City have enough firepower to overcome Manchester United with Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb having impressed in pre-season by scoring goals.
Furthermore, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are influential players who can single-handedly inspire the Citizens to a win over the Red Devils.
Quotes
"I hope to play of course, all players need to be wanting, hoping, and ready to play. Monday will be one week from the Community Shield so I need to work hard to have the opportunity to play against Manchester United," City's new signing Savinho said about playing in the Community Shield.
"I'm really happy and honoured and I can't wait. I'm really looking forward to training. I thank God for the opportunity to have brought me here. I'm grateful to everyone at Manchester City for signing me and putting my trust and faith in me and being a part of this huge club.
