Burkina Faso star
Hugues Fabrice Zango is scheduled to take part in the athletics men’s triple jump qualifying round at Japan's Olympics Games on August 3.
The 28-year-old is the world indoor record holder in the triple jump with a jump of 18.07 m (59 ft 3+1⁄4 in) set in 2021.
Zango became the first-ever medalist for Burkina Faso with a bronze medal and African record at the 2019 World Athletics Championships.
Ghanaian duo of
Joseph Amoah and Benjamin Azamati and
Isaac Makwala of Botswana are set to compete in the men’s 200 meters round one on the same day.
Amoah broke three-time Olympian Emmanuel Tuffour's 24-year old Ghanaian record in the 200 meters (20.15 seconds, set at altitude), and he has now set his sights on winning a medal in Japan.
“I’m not just going there to just run and be like, ‘I competed at the Olympics,'” Amoah said. "I want to go there to make a mark for my country and myself.”

Botswana trio of
Galefele Moroko, Christine Botlogetswe, and Amantle Montsho will also be in action in the women’s 400m round one on August 3.
Montsho, who is the former World Champion over the 400 meters, represented her country at the 2004 and 2008 Beijing Olympics reaching the final at the latter edition.
On August 7,
Helalia Johannes, will take part in the women’s marathon having won medals at the World Championships, Military World Games, the All-Africa Games, and Commonwealth Games.
Her compatriot
Thomas Rainhold is set to compete in the men's marathon on the following day having qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after finishing 28th at the Xiamen Marathon and Tuscany Camp Global Elite Race.
Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia will also be part of the race as he looks to become the first male Ethiopian runner to win the Olympics marathon since Gezahegne Abera, who won it at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Desisa became the world champion in the men's marathon by running a season's best of 2:10:40 at the 2019 World Athletics Championships.
