Villarreal and Real Sociedad will meet in a key match for each club’s European ambitions, set for Estadio de la Ceramica on Monday 13 July 2020. The match is one of 10 spread across 11-13 July as part of
La Liga’s Round 36 action.
Villarreal will come into the match on the back of a tricky clash away to Getafe in midweek, with the Yellow Submarine looking to keep up the form which has driven them into European contention since the restart.
“We must clear our heads for the remaining matches,” said Villarreal manager Javier Calleja after last weekend’s heavy defeat against Barcelona. “We must show that we can compete against quality opposition.”
Sociedad will have two extra days rest compared to their hosts, as they only play Granada at home on Friday evening. The Txuri-urdinak are scrapping hard to claim a place in next season’s UEFA Europa League, though they face stiff competition from the likes of Villarreal, Getafe, Athletic Bilbao, Valencia and Granada.

“Because there are no easy rivals, we're very excited about what's left [in the season],” said manager Imanol Alguacil. “The tiredness in the legs, the injuries have annoyed us a lot but that's what the players of the squad are for."
In head-to-head stats, Villarreal and Sociedad have met in 40 matches across all competitions. The Yellow Submarine have claimed 17 wins compared to nine for their Basque counterparts, while 14 games have been drawn.
When the teams met in La Liga earlier this season, Villarreal claimed a 2-1 away win at San Sebastian in January 2020, with goals from Manu Trigueros and Santi Cazorla.
