2019-20 Premier League
25-28 June 2020
Selected matches, rounds 31 and 32
Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers will meet for a
Premier League Midlands derby at Villa Park on Saturday 27 June 2020. The match is one of five spread from Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 June, as the English continues its return from a three-month pandemic-enforced absence.
Villa’s return to action has brought mixed results, as they began with a promising 0-0 draw against Sheffield United but them slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea last weekend. They will come into this Saturday clash off the back of a midweek game away to Newcastle United.
Manager Dean Smith remains optimistic that they can avoid relegation from the top flight: “We’re no further away from Bournemouth and the other teams down there. We’ve got a good enough chance as the other teams down there.”
Wolves’ return last weekend brought a 2-0 win at West Ham United – courtesy of goals from Raul Jimenez and Pedro Neto – and they will come into this game on the back of facing Bournemouth in midweek.

“We need this to feel that we really are back again to football. It was not enjoyable. A game of football without fans doesn’t mean anything. This game deserves fans,” said manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who added: “All game we were organised, stayed in shape, reacting to every possession. We have to improve, but we are in the right way.”
In head-to-head stats, Villa and Wanderers have met in 127 matches across all competitions. The Lions have claimed 55 wins compared to 40 for Wolves, while 32 games have been drawn.
When the teams met in the Premier League earlier this season, Wolverhampton claimed a 2-1 home win at Molineux Stadium in November 2019 thanks to goals from Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez.
