Collin Morikawa will be eager to make it back-to-back victories in the
Zozo Championship by successfully defending his title this weekend.
What to know about Morikawa
The American star has six PGA Tour wins – including two major championships, the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship, winning both in his debut.
Morikawa became the first American to win the Race to Dubai on the European Tour after he won the tour season-ending DP World Tour Championship, in Dubai in 2021.
Latest news
The last time the former world number one in amateur golf was in action was at the 2024 Tour Championship where he finished second last month.
As a result, Morikawa is placed fourth on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and his best overall ranking is second.
Why Morikawa is among the favourites
The 2023 Zozo Championship saw Morikawa secure an emphatic six-stroke triumph, the largest margin of win in the tournament history, following a closing 63.
This season, the 27-year-old has registered seven top-10s, including a runner-up finish at the Memorial Tournament and a tied third at the Masters Tournament.
In 2021, Morikawa, who is half-Japanese, finished in a tie for third place at the Olympic Games in Japan and lost in a seven-man playoff for the bronze medal.
The Las Vegas-based golfer will be determined to replicate the form that saw him win the 2023 Zozo Championship this weekend.
Quotes
“It was incredible to win the Zozo Championship," Morikawa said ahead of the 2024 tournament.
"The achievement meant the world as the tournament is one of the few events that are highlighted on my schedule at the start of every new season.
"Being half Japanese, I have a strong connection with the people of Japan, and they have shown a lot of support whenever I compete in the country," he added.
"I look forward to coming back and seeing our fans in large numbers once again to support me and the players."
