2022/23 UEFA Champions League

Group stage
Matchday 5

Barcelona v Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich will be looking to maintain their perfect record in the UEFA Champions League when they do battle with Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Wednesday, October 26.

The Reds have been in imperious form in the group stages, scoring 13 goals and conceding just twice while keeping three clean sheets.

Bayern are just one of two clubs to have won all four games in the competition this season - the other being Napoli - and they lead Inter Milan by five points in Group C.

Julian Nagelsmann's side booked their passage to the last 16 with a 4-2 victory over Viktoria Plzen at the Doosan Arena on matchday 4, having raced into a four-goal lead in the first half.

Nagelsmann has set his sights on finishing strongly to ensure they remain in top spot and paid tribute to his players for another solid performance against the Czech Republic champions.

"The boys did well. It's always a good yardstick for how you played when you run out clear winners. Hats off to the team," the German said in the post-match press conference.

"Winning away is always important. We have 12 points from four games in the toughest group, we're in the last 16 and want to finish first. That allows us to relax a bit. Today, we're all happy."

Barca must rely on results elsewhere to stand a chance of reaching the next round after a 3-3 draw with the Nerazzurri last time out took matters out of their own hands.

The Blaugrana are winless in their last three outings since beating Viktoria Plzen 5-1 on matchday 1 and sit third in the group, three points behind Inter.

Xavi bemoaned the mistakes that have put their Champions League campaign in jeopardy after they squandered the lead by conceding three goals in the second half.

"This Champions League is being cruel to us ... but in the second half we made a lot of mistakes," Vaxi said after the stalemate in the Catalan capital.

"The first goal was a clear mistake by the defensive line, and we [within the dressing room] had talked about it. Football is a game of mistakes and it's about minimizing them, today we have made very serious mistakes that have cost us.

"People saw that we played with our heart, but we can't fail. In Munich it was our effectiveness, in Milan it was other circumstances and today it was our mistakes. The Champions League is very complicated."
