Palace look to upset runaway leaders Liverpool

2019/20 Premier League

Round 13

23-25 November 2019

Crystal Palace will look for an upset result against runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool when the teams meet at Selhust Park on Saturday 23 November 2019, kick-off at 15:00 CAT.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah

Palace, after a superb start to the campaign, have fallen away in recent weeks and dropped to 12th place on the log. The Eagles’ last outing was a 2-0 loss away to London rivals Chelsea before the international break, a result which means they have taken just one point from the last 12 up for grabs.

Manager Roy Hodgson believes a change in their fortunes is not too far away, with a kinder string of fixtures lying in wait after Liverpool: "At least it is teams that have the same realistic expectations as you have, maybe wanting to be in the top half of the table, maybe wanting to avoid relegation, some of those we play against I'm sure will have realistic expectations which we can relate to,” he explained.

"We keep playing teams who are desperate to get into the Champions League and finish in the top four, and even to win the league.”

Liverpool further strengthened their status as favourites to win the Premier League title when they defeated Manchester City 3-1 at home before the international break, with goals from Fabinho, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. The Reds enjoy an eight-point lead over second-placed Leicester City.

“We all know - and we all feel - there are so many games left that so many things can happen between now and May,” said Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

"The only thing which can happen is for everyone to stay fit and we need everyone to play as well as they can.We are very happy with the position we are in, but we cannot take it for granted. We just have to keep going and take it game-by-game.”

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson

In head-to-head stats, Palace and Liverpool have met in 41 previous matches. The Reds have claimed 24 wins compared to 10 for the Eagles, while seven games have been drawn.

The teams’ Premier League meetings last season saw Liverpool complete a ‘double’: the Reds won 2-0 at Selhurst Park in August 2018 and 4-3 at Anfield in January 2019, with Senegalese star Sadio Mane scoring in both matches.
