Elche CF will lock horns with Atletico Madrid in a Spanish La Liga match at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero on May 11.

This will be the 14th meeting between the two sides across all competitions since the 2013/14 campaign when Elche returned to the Spanish top flight.

The last meeting between the two teams in La Liga was on 22 August 2021 with Atletico claiming a 1-0 win over Elche at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

Elche's home form is improving as they drew 1-1 with CA Osasuna in their last league match at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero which was played on May 1.

The Green Striped Ones are now unbeaten in their last two matches at home in this competition having registered one draw and one win which came against Real Mallorca.

Meanwhile, Atletico are struggling on the road at the moment as they lost 2-0 to Athletic Bilbao in their last away La Liga match which took place on April 30.

The defeat extended the Mattress Makers' winless run to two away matches having recorded two successive defeats as the visitors.

"We knew about the circumstances of the game, regarding the heat and the state of the grass," Elche manager Francisco said after their draw with Osasuna.

"We had to score the goal that would have put us on track in the first 20 minutes, because later the field would dry up and we would not have enough fluidity. We had presence and opportunity.

"With the field drying up, we wanted to do the same when it wasn't time. In the second half of the match, we suffered more because Osasuna adapted better," he explained.

"Every ten minutes we had to adapt to the changes, because of the substitutions and the yellow cards, and with the goal we conceded, even more so. We've been scoring three games in a row and we have to keep going."
