J.J Spaun will be eager to become the first golfer to retain the
Valero Texas Open title since Zach Johnson accomplished the feat in 2008 and 2009.
What to know about Spaun
The American golfer's full name is John Michael Spaun Jr and he is better known as J.J Spaun, and he enjoyed his breakthrough on the PGA Tour last season.
Having made his professional debut in 2013, Spaun earned his first PGA Tour win at the 2022 Valero Texas Open after 147 PGA Tour starts.
The Los Angeles-born golfer recorded his maiden victory as a professional in 2016 when he clinched the Web.com Tour's News Sentinel Open.

Spaun was in his element at the recent 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play on March 26 as he secured a top 10 finish - finishing ninth.
It was his second top 10 in 2023 having finished fifth at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions in January as Jon Rahm clinched the title.
Why Spaun is among the favourites
Spaun, who is currently placed 69th on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), will be returning to the TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course) where he won last year's Valero Texas Open.
The 32-year-old's performances at this year's WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and Sentry Tournament of Champions indicate that he is returning to his best.

“Yeah, it's still unbelievable,” Spaun said after winning the 2022 Valero Texas Open.
“I knew I could win out here on Tour. When I first got out here, I was playing really good and then obviously had a setback two years ago.
"It's just perseverance, just trying to push through and just stay strong.”
