Many great players have donned the revered Liverpool FC colours during the English Premier League (EPL) era.
We take a look at the Reds' ultimate 20-man squad.
GOALKEEPERS
Alisson Becker
The Brazil international is widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment having played a key role in helping Liverpool dominate Europe last year.
Alisson was a consistent performer as the Reds clinched the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in 2019. He was named FIFA Goalkeeper of the Year in 2019.
He is an agile and athletic goalkeeper who possesses good reflexes, excellent shot-stopping abilities, capacity to produce spectacular and instinctive reaction saves when necessary.
Jerzy Dudek
The legendary Polish goalkeeper had a successful six-year spell with Liverpool and was instrumental in helping the Reds win the 2005 UEFA Champions League title.
Dudek's double save from Andriy Shevchenko against AC Milan in the 2005 final was voted the greatest Champions League moment of all time in a poll conducted by UEFA.com.
He is known for his distribution, ball skills, technique, positioning, shot-stopping, leadership and ability to save penalties.
CENTRAL DEFENDERS
Virgil Van Dijk
The Netherlands captain has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world and is already considered Liverpool's greatest defender in the Premier League era.
Known for his strength and aerial ability, Van Dijk helped the Reds clinch the Uefa Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup in 2019. He was named UEFA Men's Player of the Year in 2019.
The towering defender is gifted with pace, good technique and an eye for goal.
"Van Dijk, that is like being crowned by the king!. The first three in the Ballon d'Or were Messi, Van Dijk and Ronaldo," legendary AC Milan defender Franco Baresi said at the 2019 Ballon d'Or awards.
Sami Hyypia
The Finnish legend is considered one of the best defenders in Premier League history and was influential during his 10-year spell with Liverpool between 1999 and 2009.
Hyypia had a successful spell with the Reds where he won two FA Cups, two UEFA Super Cups, a UEFA Champions League title, UEFA Cup and two Football League Cups.
He excelled in relying on his experience, tactical ability, positioning and timing to win the ball at the heart of the defence.
Jamie Carragher
The retired English defender is considered a legend at Liverpool and is the club's second-longest ever serving player having made 737 appearances in all competitions.
His honours with Liverpool total two FA Cups, three League Cups, two Community Shields, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup and two Super Cups.
He was a consistent old-fashioned centre-back who was known in particular for his work-rate, stamina, loyalty, leadership and commitment.
RIGHT-BACKS
Trent Alexander-Arnold
The England international is considered one of the best right-backs in the world having established himself as a key player in a formidable Liverpool team.
Alexander-Arnold became the youngest-ever player to start in two consecutive Champions League finals, with Liverpool winning the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.
He emerged as one of the Premier League's most creative players due to his role in assisting goals from early crosses and set-piece deliveries. Most impressively, he possesses an impressive passing range.
Steve Finnan
The retired English right-back was known for his attacking role and ability to cross the ball. He had a successful five-year spell with Liverpool where he won the 2005 UEFA Champions League title.
Finnan is the only player to have played in the World Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, Intertoto Cup, all four levels of the English league football and the Football Conference.
The former England international is renowned for his pace, technique, stamina and precise tackling abilities.
LEFT-BACKS
Andy Robertson
The Scotland captain has been touted as the best left-back in the world having established himself as an influential player in the current Liverpool team.
Blessed with pace, energy and crossing ability, Robertson appeared in successive UEFA Champions League finals in his first two seasons, winning the second in 2019 with the Reds.
Robertson is comfortable on the ball and adept at getting into attacking positions as a wing-back.
John Arne Riise
The Norwegian legend spent seven years playing for Liverpool as a left-back in which he won many honours, including the 2005 UEFA Champions League title.
Riise was renowned for his unrivalled stamina and powerful shooting. He impressed both as an accomplished defender and as a marauding full-back.
He was a threat from set-pieces, while primarily a left-back and he often also played as a left midfielder whilst at Liverpool.

CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS
Steven Gerrard
The legendary Liverpool captain is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders of all time having played his best football during his days with the Reds.
Gerrard is the only footballer to score in an FA Cup Final, a League Cup Final, a UEFA Cup Final and a UEFA Champions League Final, winning on each occasion.
He was a hardworking box-to-box player with great endurance in his prime. He was usually deployed as a central midfielder, but he was also an attacking midfielder.
Jordan Henderson
The England international has established himself as an inspirational Liverpool captain while operating as a box-to-box midfielder.
Henderson led the club to European victory, winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and also became the first Liverpool captain to win the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019.
He boasts physical attributes and footballing skills, and has also been praised for his leadership, both on and off the pitch.
Xabi Alonso
The legendary Spanish midfielder was considered one of the best central midfielders in the world during his five-year spell with Liverpool.
Alonso won the UEFA Champions League in his first season with the Reds, and in the following campaign he won the FA Cup and the FA Community Shield.
He was blessed with good technique, excellent vision and a varied passing range. He excelled in the centre in a deep-lying playmaker role.
RIGHT MIDFIELDERS
Mohamed Salah
The Egyptian winger is one of the best players in the world having won two back-to-back the Premier League Golden Boot awards where he helped Liverpool win the 2019 UEFA Champions League.
Known for his finishing, dribbling and speed, Salah broke the Premier League scoring record for a 38-game season when he netted 32 goals during the 2017/18 campaign.
He is predominantly known for his speed, movement, clinical finishing, agility, dribbling skills, first touch and ball control.
Steve McMamanan
The retired English winger is regarded as one of the best players of his generation.
McManaman won the FA Cup and Football League Cup with the Reds during his nine-year spell with the club.
He was used as a winger and playmaker in the Premier League throughout his career.
He was a quick, strong, creative and energetic player, with tremendous dribbling ability as well as accurate passing and crossing.
LEFT MIDFIELDERS
Sadio Mane
The reigning CAF African Player of the Year is an important member of the current Liverpool team.
Mane helped the Reds reach back-to-back UEFA Champions League Finals in 2018 and 2019, winning the latter.
He also finished as the Premier League's joint-top goalscorer last season.
His main traits are his finishing, speed, technique and trickery in possession.
Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian star was known for his combination of vision, passing, dribbling and ability to conjure curving long-range strikes.
Coutinho was named Liverpool Fans' Player of the Season twice and was named in the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League Squad of the Season, as well as the 2014/15 PFA Team of the Year.
Coutinho also boasts elite vision and passing ability which earned him the nickname "Little Magician" by Liverpool fans.
STRIKERS
Luis Suarez
The Uruguayan superstar is another player who established himself as one of the best players in the world during his time with Liverpool between 2011 and 2014.
Suarez won the Football League Cup and was named the PFA Players' Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year in 2013, while also winning the Premier League Golden Boot and European Golden Shoe.
His pace and dribbling skills allow him to get into a position to score and evade defenders while he also tends to create chances for his teammates.
Robbie Fowler
Fowler is best remembered for his tenure at Liverpool where he was a prolific striker, and is the seventh-highest goalscorer in the history of the Premier League.
Fowler scored 183 goals in total for Liverpool, 120 of which were scored in the top tier.
The retired lethal marksman was a quick and opportunistic striker, with good technical ability and used both feet to score goals.
Michael Owen
The legendary English striker was Liverpool's top goal-scorer from 1997–2004, gaining his name as a proven goal-scorer despite suffering from a recurring hamstring injury.
Owen helped Liverpool win a cup treble of the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and Football League Cup in 2001.
He was the recipient of the Ballon d'Or in 2001 and scored 118 goals in 216 appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool.
The former England international was known for his great pace, opportunism and agility as well as his technical ability and eye for goal.
