2023 French Open third-round match on June 2
Previous round
Alcaraz reached this round after he sealed a 6-1 3-6 6-1 6-2 victory over Japan's Taro Daniel in a second-round match on May 31.
Shapovalov, on the other hand, booked his spot in this round after securing a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Italy's Matteo Arnaldi on May 31.
French Open record
Currently ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), Alcaraz reached the quarter-finals in last year's French Open.
It was Alcaraz's best performance in the tournament and the 2022 US Open champion is now looking to go all the way and clinch the trophy.
While Shapovalov is making his debut appearance in the French Open third round and the Canadian star is yet to win a singles grand slam title.
Shapovalov, who is ranked 32nd in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), is hoping to cause an upset against Alcaraz.

What was said
“Daniel just played at a great level and I’m really happy with my level," Alcaraz said after defeating Daniel in the 2023 French One second round.
"Taro played great, he’s a really tough player and continues to win matches against great players. The conditions with the wind were really, really tough.
“We’re here on Philippe-Chatrier Court, you simply have to adjust your game as best you can. I was really focused in every shot. I played a great level even in the wind," he added.
“It’s amazing to play here. I’ve always wanted to play well in Paris, at Roland Garros. I feel the support from the very first day. I feel all the energy, it’s tough to describe the crowd.”
Head-to-Head record
This will be the first-ever meeting between Alcaraz and Shapovalov in a professional tournament.
The winner between the duo will take on either UK's Cameron Norrie and Lorenzo Musetti of Italy in the fourth-round clash.
