World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev will be hoping for a deep run at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships after an impressive showing in the first half of the year.

The Russian already has five ATP Tour titles under his belt in 2023, with the pick of them coming at the Dubai Championships when he beat No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4 in the semi-finals before getting the better of compatriot Andrey Rublev in the final.

Medvedev didn't fare particularly well at either the Australian Open or the French Open, bowing out to John Millman and Thiago Seyboth Wild in the second and first rounds respectively.

The 27-year-old warmed up for Wimbledon with a run to the quarter-finals at the Halle Open last month and has marched on to the third round on the London grass after defeating Arthur Fery (7-5, 6-4, 6-3) and Andrian Mannarino (6-3, 6-3, 7-6) in straight sets.

Medvedev missed the 2022 edition and has yet to progress further than the fourth round in five previous attempts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

After admitting to being unsure of the reception he'd get from the stands in the match against Englishman Fery, Medvedev was surprised to hear cheers coming from some fans and wants to repay them by putting on a good show for the remainder of the tournament.

"I think either when we went to the referee or something, I was kind of the first one, or I was the second one to come, and they were cheering me on in a way. I was like, 'Okay, that's surprising'," he said.

"During the match, I felt like that's normal, they really tried to help Arthur, to pump him up and something. There was zero let's say negative energy that I felt. I never had such a good reception at Wimbledon.

"It's much better than I had before. So that's great. I'm going to try to give them back, if I can say like this. Hopefully I can.

"The reception today, what I felt, I don't feel it that often. I was really, let's call it, touched by it. I'm going to remember it like for the next times."
