Barcelona’s resolve to retain their La Liga title will be put to the test by Villarreal when the teams meet at Estadio de la Ceramica on Sunday 5 July 2020, kick-off at 20:00. The match is one of 10 spread across 3-6 July as part of
La Liga’s Round 34 action.
Villarreal have enjoyed a great surge in their form since the league restart and they now have a chance of even securing a place in the top four – and UEFA Champions League football for next season. They will come into this game on the back of a clash away to Real Betis on Wednesday.
“We will be very close to qualifying for the Champions League [if Villarreal continue with their form],” said manager Javier Calleja. “We will fight for everything in the remainder of the season.”

Barcelona, meanwhile, suffered a major blow to their hopes of retaining their title when they were held 2-2 at home by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night. The Blaugrana twice led through an own goal from Diego Costa and penalty from Lionel Messi, but were unable to secure a much-needed victory.
“We have to improve and do things better,” said under-fire manager Quique Setien. "The situation we are experiencing, in which we are superior but do not generate goals, frustrates us. But the situations are normal. It is something we can change."
In head-to-head stats, Villarreal and Barcelona have met in 43 matches across all competitions. The Blaugrana have claimed 25 wins compared to eight for the Yellow Submarine, while 10 games have been drawn.
When the teams met in La Liga earlier this season, Barca claimed a 2-1 home win at the Camp Nou in September 2019 thanks to goals from Antoine Griezmann and Arthur. The teams’ last six La Liga meetings have produced 26 goals.
