2019 Tour de France
21 stages
6-28 July
Geraint Thomas of Team Ineos (formerly Team Sky) will be targeting a successful defence of his Tour de France title, when the 2019 edition gets underway in Belgium on Saturday July 6.
Thomas was a surprise winner of the 2018 TDF ahead of teammate and four-time champion Chris Froome. The two riders were expected to jostle for leadership this year, but Froome recently suffered a career-threatening crash and was ruled out of the Tour.
This leaves Thomas as co-team leader with Colombian Egan Bernal. Ineos are expected to be one of the leading teams and will look to dictate terms on the mountains, where they have incredible climbing power.
Ineos’ full squad for the Tour is Thomas, Bernal, Jonathan Castroviejo, Michal Kwiatkowski, Gianni Moscon, Wout Poels, Luke Rowe and Dylan van Baarle.
The start of the 2019 Tour (known as the Grand Départ) will be in Brussels in honour of the 50th anniversary of the first Tour de France win of the great Eddy Merckx.
The 100th anniversary of the yellow jersey will be celebrated on 19 July. Throughout the race, an individual jersey design will be issued for each day's race leader.
