Rory McIlroy will be eager to register his second victory of the 2025 PGA Tour season by winning the
Genesis Invitational.
What to know about McIlroy
The Northern Irish superstar had a successful amateur career, topping the World Amateur Golf Ranking for one week as a 17-year-old in 2007 and later that year, he turned professional, and soon established himself on the European Tour.
Boasting 42 professional tournament wins including 27 PGA Tour victories, McIlroy is also a four-time major champion, winning the 2011 US Open, 2012 PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship, and 2014 PGA Championship.
News
The accomplished golfer has been inactive since he took part in the 2025 PGA Tour schedule's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in Carlfonita, USA where he was crowned champion.
McIlroy is currently placed third in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) having spent over a hundred weeks in the number one position during his career.
Why McIlroy is among the favourites
By winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, finishing with a score of −21, and beating Shane Lowry by two strokes, the three-time PGA Tour Player of the Year gained a morale-boosting victory.
McIlroy will now be looking to continue from where he left off when he tees off at the Torrey Pines Golf Course and make the Genesis Invitational his 28th victory in the PGA Tour.
Quotes
"Some people would argue that the golf courses I've won on are not up to a Pebble Beach or an Augusta or whatever, but to win at one of the cathedrals of golf is really, really cool," McIlroy said after winning the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
"I knew today was going to be tough. It was going to be exciting. There were so many guys that were around the lead. And I guess with it being Pebble Beach, I had to put that to the back of my mind and just go out there and try to shoot a score, which I was able to."
