Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso will be keen to start the 2024 Formula One World Championship season with a win at the
Bahrain Grand Prix.
What to know about Alonso
The Spanish racing driver won the Formula One World title in 2005 and 2006 with Renault, and has also driven for McLaren, Ferrari, and Minardi.
Alonso is the only driver to win both the F1 World Drivers' Championship and the World Endurance Championship, even if the World Sportscar Championship is included in WEC.
The two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans champion finished fourth in the 2023 Formula One World Drivers' Championship standings.
Why Alonso could win the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix
The 42-year-old is one of the most successful drivers in the history of the Bahrain Grand Prix having won the race three times - in 2005, 2006, and 2010.
Only Lewis Hamilton (five titles) and Sebastian Vettel (five titles) have won more Bahrain Grand Prix trophies than Alonso.
Alonso will also be targeting an elusive 33rd victory in his Formula One career by clinching the Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend.
What did he say?
"I don't think it's going to change much because there are too many unknowns every season – anything can happen in Formula One," Alonso said ahead of the 2024 Formula One World Championship season.
"When we hit the track in winter testing or race one next year, I think we will see how things are and be very open with whatever targets we set for the championship.
"We will hopefully be competitive again, fighting for regular points and podiums, hopefully for our first win – that would be the dream – but we cannot underestimate the challenge."
