Rory McIlroy will be determined to win the
Genesis Invitational in order to reclaim his spot at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
What to know about McIlroy
The Northern Irish superstar slipped down to the second spot on the OWGR standings after Scottie Scheffler of the USA won the recent 2023 WM Phoenix Open.
Nicknamed Rors, McIlroy is a former world number one who spent over 100 weeks in that position during his career and he is a four-time major champion.
Rors, who also competes in the European Tour, has impressively won 23 tournaments which are part of the PGA Tour.

McIlroy took part in the 2023 WM Phoenix Open which was played at the TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA and he finished in position 32.
It was the 2011 US Open winner's second professional tournament in 2023 having competed in the Hero Dubai Classic in the United Arab Emirates and he won the tournament.
The Hero Dubai Classic is part of the European Tour.
Why McIlroy is among favourites
Rors will be keen to end his trophy drought on the PGA Tour as his last win on the professional golf tour came in October 2022 - clinching the CJ Cup in South Carolina, USA.
A place at the top of the OWGR will also be at stake as McIlroy looks to reclaim the position by winning the Genesis Invitational for the first time in his career.

Asked at the 2023 WM Phoenix Open on Golf Channel if he felt like the world’s best, McIlroy’s answer was succinct. “Yes,” he said, before being asked why.
“Because I do. I'm playing well. I feel like consistency-wise, I've been as good as I have ever been in my career.
“I think the results speak for themselves, as well, over not just the past six months but really the past 18 months post-Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, I feel like I've been on a really good run of form since then.”
