2022/23 Spanish La Liga
Matchday 23
Valencia CF v Real Sociedad
Estadio de Mestalla
Valencia, Spain
Saturday, 25 February 2023
Kick-off is at 20h00
Valencia CF will face off with Real Sociedad in a
Spanish La Liga match at the Estadio de Mestalla on February 25.
Current Form
The Bats succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Athletic Bilbao at home on February 11 and the defeat extended their winless run to seven matches in the league.
Valencia are also winless in their last three matches at home having recorded one draw and two defeats at the Estadio de Mestalla.
While Sociedad were held to a 1-1 draw by Celta Vigo at home on February 18 and they are undefeated in their last two games in La Liga.
The White and Blues are enjoying a five-match unbeaten run on the road having registered one draw and four wins as the away side.
What Is At Stake
Valencia are in the relegation zone - occupying the 17th spot on the league standings with 20 points from 21 matches.
However, the Bats will climb out of the relegation zone if they defeat Getafe CD on February 20 before they take on Sociedad on February 25.
On the other hand, Sociedad are placed third on the league standings and a win over Valencia will see manager Imanol Agucil's side boost their hopes of finishing in the top four.
Team News
Edinson Cavani has been added to Valencia's injury-list which includes Nico Gonzalez and Thierry Correia while Jaume Doménech is suspended.
While Sociedad players Mohamed-Ali Cho, Martín Merquelanz, David Silva, Umar Sadiq as well as Elustondo are all expected to miss the game against Valencia due to their respective injuries.
Key Players
With Cavani missing due to his injury, the Bats will look to Samu Castillejo who has scored three times for the former La Liga champions this season.
Valencia will be wary of Sociedad's top scorer Alexander Sorloth who has found the back of the net nine times in the league in the current campaign.
Quotes
"Keeping a clean sheet is vital. If you want to be in the game and be competitive, you have to avoid making mistakes that the opposition can take advantage of," Valencia manager Ruben Baraja said.
"We have to make things easy, simple and try to be a team that doesn't concede. Being powerful in defence and being organised and compact is essential.
"If you don't concede and you're strong defensively, and everyone works for the team, you have a good chance of winning because you'll have the opportunity to create chances and score."
Head-to-Head
Valencia and Sociedad drew 1-1 in their last meeting in La Liga and the game took place at the Reale Arena on 6 November 2022.
Therefore, Valencia are undefeated in their five league games against Sociedad having recorded four draws and one win over their top-flight rivals.
