The Lions of Teranga reached this stage of the tournament after claiming a 3-1 win over Burkina Faso in a semi-final game that was played on February 2.

The Lions of Teranga had a slow start to the tournament recording two draws against Guinea and Malawi, and a win over Zimbabwe in Group B.

Since then Aliou Cisse's side have won three matches in a row - securing victories over Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso.

"It shows you the momentum we have. We knew it was not going to be at all easy to get to two straight Afcon finals," Senegal's talisman Sadio Mane said after their win over Burkina Faso.

"But the most important for us now is to go all the way and win it, whoever we come up against. We were up against a really good Burkina side who caused us a lot of problems.

"I think you can see on my face how happy I am, which is completely normal. I am really proud personally and very happy for myself, my teammates and the country."

Senegal are making their third appearance in the AFCON final and they are hoping to win the tournament for the first time in history.

They were defeated by Cameroon 3-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw at the 2002 final in Nigeria, before losing 1-0 to Algeria in the 2019 final in Egypt.

This will be the 13th meeting between Senegal and Egypt across all competitions.

Egypt have dominated this rivalry having registered six wins compared to Senegal's four, while two matches ended in a draw.

The last meeting between Senegal and Egypt was on 15 November 2014.

Senegal emerged 1-0 winners over Egypt in the 2015 AFCON qualifier which was played at the Cairo International Stadium in Cairo.

Head-to-Head (All-time record)

Matches - 12
