Germany’s torrid run in 2018 culminated in their relegation from the UEFA Nations League’s top division without a ball even being kicked prior to their game against the Netherlands following the Dutch sides victory over the World Champions France last week.

Die Mannschaft head into Monday’s clash with just one point picked up from their first three UEFA Nations League matches. Since their dismal display at the World Cup, which saw Germany exit the tournament as defending champions in just the group stage, Joachim Low’s side have managed just two wins from five internationals. Both of those victories came in home friendlies with the most recent outing ending 3-0 against the 2018 World Cup hosts Russia.

09/09/2018 – Germany 2-1 Peru

Holland on the other hands are flying high at the minute and soar into Monday’s monstrous clash against Germany off the back of a remarkable run that has seen the Oranje suffer just one defeat in their last eight internationals since being beaten by Gareth Southagate’s England outfit back in March in what was Ronald Koeman’s first game in charge. A win or draw on Monday would cap a fine turnaround in form for the Dutch and see them top the Group ahead of the finals next year.

16/10/2018 – Belgium 1-1 Netherlands

Germany’s first test against the Netherlands in nearly six years ended in a bitterly disappointing defeat last month and allowed the Dutch an opportunity to continue to close the gap between them and their near European neighbours. Monday’s match will be the 42nd meeting between the pair and Deutschland, with only pride left on the line, will most certainly have revenge on their minds. This will be the Netherlands first visit to Germany since a 3-0 friendly defeat in November 2011.

Netherlands captain Virgil Van Dijk has been in red-hot form for English Premier League club Liverpool this season and scored his first competitive international goal to open the scoring when the sides met in October before Memphis Depay and Liverpool team-mate Georginio Wijnaldum each netted in the final five minutes to secure a comprehensive victory. Depay and Wijnaldum were both on the scoresheet once more in the 2-0 win over France on Friday doubling their respective UEFA Nations League tally’s and are ones to keep an eye again on Monday.
