2019/20 Premier League
Round 18
21-22 December 2019
The busy festive season period in England’s top flight will be opened by the meeting of Everton and Arsenal at Goodison Park on Saturday 21 December 2019, kick-off at 12:30.
The match is one of nine spread over 21-22 December in the 18
th round of the current
Premier League season, with Liverpool’s match away to West Ham United postponed due to the former’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Everton’s last home game saw them produce a superb, passionate showing to defeat Chelsea 3-1 earlier in the month, with caretaker Duncan Ferguson having taken charge from axed manager Marco Silva just a few days prior.
The Toffees put in a display which saw them make more tackles than any other Premier League team this season (and more than they had managed as a club in a decade), exemplifying the fight and spirit they will need to not only overcome Arsenal, but also salvage what has thus far been a disappointing season.

Arsenal showed major signs of improvement in their last away game, racking up a 3-1 triumph at London rivals West Ham United, thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
"Football throws a curve ball at you all the time and the players responded. They worked so hard, and in the Premier League you have to. It's all down to the players - I'm just there to guide them a little bit,” said Gunners caretaker Freddie Ljungberg.
In head-to-head stats, Everton and Arsenal have met in 200 previous matches. The Gunners have claimed 101 wins compared to 57 for the Toffees, while 42 games have been drawn.
The teams’ Premier League meetings last season both produced home wins: Arsenal triumphed 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in September 2018, while the return game at Goodison Park in April 2019 saw Everton claim revenge with a 1-0 victory.
