With just 10 game weeks left to play, the Premier League season enters a period where every point gained and every point lost could alter the entire outcome of the final table. Chelsea are still sitting comfortably at the top of the table 10 points clear of second placed Tottenham and 3
rd placed Man City (on goal difference) who are both on fine form at the minute. Trailing close behind are Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd which leaves just 7 points separating 2
nd and 6
th position. The bottom end see’s Sunderland, who are all but relegated, Middlesbrough, who have today announced the sacking of their manager Aitor Karanka and Hull City who have been rather inconsistent.
The weekend kicks off early on Saturday afternoon when Arsenal travel to a West Brom side who are coming off a spell of 2 straight losses in the league. The Gunners, on the other hand, have lost 3 of their last 4 league games which will without a doubt push West Brom to bring their A-game as they attempt to lessen the gap to 7
th position Everton. Arsene Wenger has a massive point to prove as continued pressure from the Arsenal faithful pours in, in an attempt to force him out of the club. Wenger, however, appears to be having none of it and has expressed his desire to remain in management for several years to come.
The rest of the day should produce some exciting clashes including a tough away game for Chelsea when they play Stoke City. The potters have not lost at home in the last 8 league games and are renowned for their strong home record while the blues are currently enjoying an 11 game streak without loss. Chelsea are coming off a controversial FA Cup win over Man Utd on Monday night and will without a doubt be looking to maintain their impressive lead at the top while Diego Costa attempts to reach his 50th Premier League goal. Stoke's last game resulted in a 0-0 draw with man city and the hosts are not to be undermined when they take on the blues. Elsewhere, Crystal Palace will attempt to move further away from relegation when they host Watford who have not won in 3 and Everton attempt to extend their 5 game unbeaten run at home against a lacklustre Hull City.
Saturday just keeps on giving when West Ham United Host Leicester City in a game that is set to be the game of the weekend. West Ham last managed a league win at the beginning of February and will need to improve on that if they want to finish in the top half of the table. The Foxes have been extremely impressive under Craig Shakespeare and are yet to lose since the new manager took the reins. Andy Carroll will also be gunning for his 50th Premier League goal which could put him in a sharp shooting mindset that could see him convert in front of the home crowd.
4 of the top 6 teams are in action on Sunday and the day kicks off with Manchester United travelling to Middlesbrough who have just sacked manager Aitor Karanka. United will be looking to extend their 17 game unbeaten run in the League against a shaky Boro side who scored just twice in their last 9 games. Mourinho’s men will be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is serving a 3 games suspension as well as Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial who are out injured. The day continues when Tottenham, who have not lost at home this season, host Southampton who have just 2 wins from their last 5 games. Spurs have just received the news that star striker Harry Kane will be out for up to 6 weeks with an ankle injury which could gift out of favour striker Vincent Janssen with a chance to prove his worth.
The weekend closes with the most anticipated fixture of the weekend when 3
rd placed Manchester city (56 points) bash heads with 4
th placed Liverpool (55) points in a battle for 3
rd position. The Citizens are unable to boast a solid record against Liverpool with the Merseysiders snatching bragging rights from 5 of the last 6 league meetings between the 2 teams. City, however, have gone unbeaten in their last 6 league games and will not be going down without a fight. This game is guaranteed to be a thriller and should be the cherry-on-top of a weekend of exciting football.
