Jon Rahm will be determined to become the first Spaniard to win the Hero World Challenge twice when he tees off at Albany Golf Course.

The 28-year-old won this tournament in 2018 as he shot a 7-under 65 in Round 4 to finish at 20-under 268 and emerged victorious by four over playing partner Tony Finau.

Finau finished at 16 under following a 69 in the final round on Sunday and it was Rahm who walked away with $1 million in prize money and a trophy.

Rahm came close to successfully defending the Hero World Challenge in 2019 when he finished second behind winner Henrik Stenson.

Stenson won the Hero World Challenge by one stroke over Rahm and the former has since left the PGA Tour and joined the LIV Golf which is funded by Saudi Arabia.

Currently placed fifth on the Official World Golf Rankings, Rahm is a seven-time winner on the PGA Tour including the 2021 US Open.

His last win on the PGA Tour came in May 2022 as the Barrika-born star tapped in for par on the final hole for a one-shot victory at the Mexico Open.

Rahm began 2022 as the world’s number one-ranked player and he is now fifth, but the 2021 PGA Golfer of the Year still feels he had a quality year.

“It was a really good round of golf. I was really comfortable all day,” Rahm said — and then was asked to assess his season as a whole. That’s where he let it rip.

“Well, I got pretty tired of hearing, ‘you’re having an off-year. Maybe the standard I’ve set has gotten you guys used to seeing me win more often, or at least having the chance to win more often.”

Tiger Woods is the most decorated golfer in the history of the Hero World Challenge with five titles since the tournament's formation in 2000.
