The festive season is here and as usual, the footballing world has been blessed with a jam packed few weeks of football. Tuesday and Wednesday night brings us the first midweek fixtures of the season so far and there are a host of exciting games to look out for. Chelsea head into the game week at the top of the Log and there will be a host of teams looking to gain some ground on the blues.
The action kicks off on Tuesday night as Bournemouth host Leicester and Everton entertain Arsenal. Leicester will be hoping to follow up on their impressive victory against Man City over the weekend and Bournemouth have not beaten them in their last 6 league matches. Everton and Arsenal could provide us with one of the matches of the week. If the Toffee’s turn out in fine form then they should be able to give the gunners a run for their money. Arsenal, however, have won more premier league matches against Everton than they have against any other side.
Wednesday night brings us 8 games including some important clashes. Can Chelsea make it 10 league wins in a row? With a match against bottom of the log Sunderland, Conte’s men are expected to carry on their fine form and pick up all 3 points come Wednesday. With a tough away game for Arsenal, we could see Chelsea extend their lead at the top of the table to 6 points if Wenger’s men fail to win.
Elsewhere in the top 4, Man City host Watford which could prove to be a surprising challenge for them. City lost on the weekend and Guardiola does not seem to be getting his formula correct on the blue side of Manchester. Watford, on the other hand, have been on decent form and are sitting 7
th on the log with 3 wins from the last 6. They have currently won 5, drawn 5 and lost 5 of their 15 games so far. Liverpool will face a tough fixture at Middlesbrough who have been rather unpredictable this season. Borough have a strong strike-force and should manage to get a few past a struggling Liverpool defence. Klopp, however, will be hoping that his men can outscore the hosts.
With these games and a host of other exciting fixtures, we are sure to have an exciting midweek.
