BMW Championship is set to take place at the Wilmington Country Club in Delaware, the USA between 18 and 21 August.
Established in 2007 by the Western Golf Association, the BMW Championship was previously known as the Western Open.
In 2012, 2013, and 2014, the PGA Tour named the BMW Championship its Tournament of the Year and it is the longest-running regular event on the PGA Tour calendar.
The competition is open to the top 70 PGA Tour golfers following the FedEx St. Jude Championship which was won by Will Zalatoris on August 14.
The current champion is Patrick Cantlay having won the 2021 BMW Championship - winning the tournament for the first time in his career.
This year's field will be headlined by big-name players such as Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, while Cantlay will be back to defend his crown.
Four players -- Lucas Glover, Adam Scott, Andrew Putnam and Wyndham Clark -- played their way into the top 70 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The field will be playing for a $15 million purse, and 36 of the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking are among the top contenders.
Cameron Smith, the third-ranked player in the FedExCup, has withdrawn from the BMW Championship because of a hip injury.
“Unfortunately, Cam will be unable to compete in the BMW Championship this week in Wilmington,” Smith’s agent, Bud Martin, said in a statement.
“He has been dealing with some on-and-off hip discomfort for several months and thought it best to rest this week in his pursuit of the FedExCup.”
Tiger Woods and Dustin Johnson are the most decorated golfers in the history of the BMW Championship having won the tournament twice each.
