Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey will look to break into the Atletico Madrid starting line-up and feature in the derby against Real Madrid on Saturday night, which is the feature match in a busy week in La Liga which sees 20 matches played from Tuesday 25 September to Monday 1 October.
Partey appeared as a second-half substitute for Diego Simeone’s team in their weekend 2-0 win at Getafe, but will want to have a greater role for their clash with Los Blancos at the Bernabeu on the evening of Saturday 29 September.
The Black Stars player’s best chance may come in their midweek clash at home to Huesca: if he is given the opportunity to shine against the lower-table strugglers then he may well force his way into Simeone’s thinking for the Madrid derby.
Real, before hosting their cross-town rivals on the weekend, face a tricky away game at Sevilla on Wednesday night. The Andalusia club have hit a rich vein of form by picking up 5-1 and 6-2 victories over Standard Liege and Levante in the past few days and in Wissam Ben Yedder (who is of Tunisian origin) they have a forward capable of hurting Julen Lopetegui’s team at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Log leaders Barcelona face Leganes – who can call on Africans Allan Nyom, Kenneth Omeruo, Nabil El Zhar and Youssef En-Nesyri – in midweek before hosting Athletic Bilbao on Saturday afternoon. Having been held at the Camp Nou last time out, Lionel Messi and co. will be itching for a return to winning form.
Another Ghanaian performing admirably in La Liga this season is winger Mubarak Wakaso, who has featured in all five matches for a Deportivo Alaves team which is performing beyond all expectations and find themselves placed third on the log ahead of the midweek clashes. Alaves will first host Getafe – who boast Amath Ndiaye and Djene Dakonam in their squad – in midweek before tacking Leganes away on Sunday evening.
Sofiane Boufal’s Celta de Vigo are one of La Liga’s most entertaining teams (their last two matches have produced 11 goals) and they will face Valencia away on Wednesday before hosting Getafe on Monday night in a match which wraps up a busy schedule for Spain’s top flight.
