Alex Rins will be hoping to become the first rider to win back-to-back
Australian MotoGP titles since Casey Stoner in 2012.
Most recent race
The LCR Honda Castrol rider missed out on the Indonesian MotoGP title which took place on 15 October having struggled with injuries this season.
Rins started on the 21st grid and he went on to finish ninth as he collected seven vital points at the Mandalika International Street Circuit.
Standings
The 2011 CEV Buckler 125 Junior GP champion is placed 17th on the riders' standings having accumulated 53 points from eight races.
Rins, who collected 205 points which got him fourth place in the 2022 MotoGP championship, is already out of the race for this season's MotoGP title.
Why Rins could win the 2023 Australian MotoGP
The Barcelona-born star won last season's Australian MotoGP making it four successive wins for Spanish riders at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.
Rins has already tasted success in the current campaign having clinched the American MotoGP and he will now be confident of retaining the Australian MotoGP title.
What did he say?
“We fought really hard all these months without racing, at home with the physical therapies, in the gym," Rins said after the 2023 Indonesian MotoGP.
"So for me today we achieved more than a P9. For me, it was like a podium. We struggled a lot, many days in the hospital. So to achieve this is a really, really great result.
"First Honda. We stayed on the bike, with all these hot conditions and the slippery track. I'm super happy!”
