Sergio Perez will be eager to record his first win of the current 2024 season by clinching the
Japanese Grand Prix title.
Red Bull Racing's Most recent race
The Red Bull Racing driver was unable to secure a podium spot at the Australian Grand Prix on 24 March as he finished fifth.
Perez started on the sixth grid and he finished fifth which saw him collecting 10 points in the process from the eventful race.
Formula One title ambitions
The Mexican star is now placed third on the World Drivers' Championship standings having accumulated 46 points from three races.
Perez is just a point behind second-placed Charles Leclerc of Ferrari as the duo looks to catch leader Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing.
Why Perez could win the 2024 Japanese MotoGP
Perez is now five points behind his teammate Verstappen and he will be determined to leapfrog Verstappen by winning the Japanese Grand Prix.
The experienced driver finished second in the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix and he will be looking to go one step further and win the race for the first time.
What did he say?
"We were struggling early on, we could see that Ferrari and McLaren were a step ahead of us. I think we just couldn't get the balance in a window," Perez said after finishing fifth at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix.
"And there is some work to do for the coming races. We already saw last year in a track like this - for example, Las Vegas a front-limited track - Ferrari was a lot stronger than us so we just couldn't look after the front tyres."
"Yeah, the race would have looked a little bit different to how it looked, because basically the first stint we just [got stuck] behind [George] Russell. Losing the place to him was very damaging and, yeah... just a very bad weekend. Plenty of understanding for us to do."
