2023/24 Spanish La Liga
Matchday 18
Villarreal CF v Celta Vigo
Estadio de la Cerámica
Villarreal, Spain
Wednesday, 20 December 2023
Kick-off is at 22h30
Villarreal CF will go head to head with Celta Vigo in a
La Liga match at the Estadio de la Cerámica on 20 December.
Current Form
The Yellow Submarine suffered a 4-1 loss to Real Madrid away on 17 December and they are now winless in their last three matches in the Spanish top-flight.
Villarreal have lost two of their last three home matches in the league while the other game ended in a win at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
Meanwhile, Celta secured a 1-0 win over Granada CF at home on 16 December and they are undefeated in their last four games in La Liga.
However, the Sky Blues are winless in their last six away matches having recorded successive two draws and four consecutive defeats as the visitors.
Team News
Villarreal will be without the suspended Etienne Capoue while Santi Comesaña, Juan Foyth, Matteo Gabbia, Denis Suárez and Yeremy Pino are on the club's injury list.
Celta, on the other hand, have Joseph Aidoo and Carl Starfelt on their injury list while Iago Aspas is suspended.
Quotes
“It was a disappointing game because of the result and the way we played," Villarreal manager Marcelino García Toral said after his side's defeat to Madrid.
"They played a great game, but we weren’t intense, dynamic and mobile enough with and without the ball to be able to compete with our opponents. The results after four months of competition show the reality. In LALIGA, when you play badly, there is no rival in the top flight that doesn’t beat you.”
“The team has been well below the level it is at. We have conceded goals very easily. This is the seventh goal in eight games since I’ve been here that we’ve conceded from set pieces and against opponents of this level if you’re not at 100% intensity and concentration, you’re condemned.”
Head-to-Head
Villarreal claimed a 3-1 win over Celta in their last meeting in La Liga in a match played at the Estadio de la Cerámica on 30 April 2023.
As a result, the Yellow Submarine are undefeated in their last four league matches against the Sky Blues having recorded two draws and two wins.
