The English Premier League chews up and spits out unworthy managers at a frightening rate. It takes an incredible individual to manage, develop and build a team up without earning the ire of either management, the team, or the fans. Today we’re taking a look at some of the longest serving EPL Managers.
Pep Guardiola – Manchester City
In 2016, Guardiola joined Man City on a three-year deal and not long afterwards, he was seen as one of the best Premier League managers of all time. Despite losing his first pre-season game against Bayern Munich, the Spaniard would go on to win seven trophies with the Citizens including two English Super Cups, two English League Cups, an FA Cup and, of course, back-to-back Premier League titles.
Chris Wilder – Sheffield United
It only took Chris Wilder three seasons to move Sheffield up from a mid-table League 1 team to the Premier League and he’s taken his position as the manager in stride and surpassed all expectations. The Blades have notched some notable performances including draws against Chelsea, Tottenham and United and even a victory over Arsenal.
Jurgen Klopp – Liverpool
Following on from his work at Borussia Dortmund, Klopp injected his energy into a Liverpool squad that was looking for a change. It may have taken him a while, but he eventually led Liverpool to a stunning Champions League victory in 2018/19 and has all but secured them the 2019/20 EPL season, marking him as one of the world’s top managers currently. His current stint at Liverpool has lasted for 4 years.
Sean Dyche – Burnley
Burnley’s record in the EPL can only be described as a bumpy ride, and all credit to Sean Dyche who’s managed to hold on to the wheel through all the ups and downs. After securing their promotion to the Premier League in 2013/14, the side eventually buckled and went back down. This didn’t stop Dyche though, who led the team to a Championship title and later to 7th place in the Premier League – their highest achievement. He has served a full seven years as Burnley’s manager.
Eddie Howe – Bournemouth
Eddie Howe will always be remembered as the manager responsible for lifting Bournemouth up into the Premier League for the first time in history. His dedication to the club and unique style of management has kept him in the fight, even as Bournemouth currently languish near the bottom of the current EPL table. Eddie has spent the last seven years with the club and is the longest-serving coach in the Premier League.
While Liverpool are all but sure of a victory in the 2019/20 season, there's still a chance for some of these managers to upset the log. Who are you backing as we head towards the end of the EPL season?
